Forward Axel Jonsson Fjällby has signed a three-year entry level contract with the Washington Capitals, beginning in the 2018-2019 season.
The Capitals selected Fjällby in the fifth round, 147th-overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. The 6’0″, 170-pound Stockholm native was ranked 92nd overall among international skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He is also one of six Swedish players drafted by Washington since the 2012 NHL Draft.
Fjällby is scheduled to attend the 2018 Capitals Development Camp.
HockeyAllsvenskan recently named Henrik Haukeland (Timrå IK) Goalie of the Year for the 2017-2018 season.
Haukeland allowed the least amount of goals among goalies in the league and ended the season with a save percentage of 92.9%. In addition, the Norwegian recorded seven shutouts and won 62% of the games he played in. Haukeland also represented Team Norway in the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Axel Jonsson Fjällby’s season with Djurgården IF may have just ended, but the star forward is now set to join Adam Åhman and play for Team Sweden in the Carlson Hockey Games, taking place in Jaroslavl and Pardubice.
”It’s going to be fun,” said Fjällby to HockeyNews.se. ”I’m going to play my best hockey.”
The Washington Capitals prospect, nicknamed ”The Hunter,” ended this season with seven goals and nine assists, and was a standout for Team Sweden during the World Junior Championships in Buffalo.
Forward Zion Nybeck and defenseman Theo Nordlund have been standouts for Sweden’s U16 National Team in the 4-Nations Tournament, currently taking place in Umeå.
Nybeck is the tournament’s leading scorer so far, recording two goals and three assists in the three games played. Nordlund, on the other hand, has been seeing a lot of ice time and recently recorded two assists in Sweden’s 6-0 victory over Czech Republic this past Friday.
Ville Kolppanen has signed a one-year contract extension with Rögle BK of the SHL. The Finnish goalie stood in net 12 times and ended the season with a .908 save percentage.
”I’m happy that I can come back to Rögle,” said Kolppanen, a fan favorite, in an interview posted to the team’s official website. ”There were three main reasons for me coming back: to continue working with goalie coach Magnus, that we can win every game, and the fans.”
Alex Nylander scored his first NHL goal in the Buffalo Sabres 7-5 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning this past Friday. This was Nylander’s first time being called up from the Rochester Americans this season.
Nylander described the feeling to Sabres color analyst and alumn Rob Ray as ”surreal.”
Earlier today, the Sabres assigned Nylander back to the Americans.
