Although there is a possibility that Axel Jonsson Fjällby will return to the SHL and Djurgården IF for another season, the 20-year-old forward has his sights set on Washington D.C.
Fjällby, who is currently attending the Washington Capitals’ rookie camp after signing his first NHL contract back in May, feels ready and determined to make the team’s roster.
”I will not lie, I’m a little tense. It’ll be a new adventure, and I have never gone over before and been set on staying there. There have been some tournaments and development camps but this is the first time it’s for real,” he said in an interview with HockeyNews.se.
It’s finally September and that means hockey season is right around the corner. NHL rookie camps have recently begun, with top prospects from each team taking part in a week’s worth of testing, on and off-ice training, and games.
For forward Alex Nylander, this will be his third time taking part in the Buffalo Sabres rookie camp, and he’s looking to make the most of the opportunity.
In an interview with the Sabres’ Content Marketing Coordinator Jourdon LaBarber, Nylander expressed his excitement for this year’s Prospects Challenge, something he was unable to take part in last year due to a lower-body injury, as well as his thoughts on being a leader for the younger players.
”This is going to be my third rookie camp so of course I feel like I’ve done it before and I’m trying to be a leader for the other guys like Dahlin and other guys who are young here,” he said. ”Just show everything on the ice and try to work as hard as possible.”
Nylander has already been proving his determination and making a good impression, scoring a short-handed goal in last night’s game against the New Jersey Devil’s prospects. The Sabres won 6-4, and are set to take on the Boston Bruins tonight.
Alex Nylander recently spoke with Martin Tolén of Aftonbladet about his summer workout program, provided by dad, Michael, and his thoughts on all of the Rasmus Dahlin hype in Buffalo.
This isn’t the first time Nylander has been drilled by his own dad. ”This year we’re working just as hard as last year,” said Nylander in the article. You actually get in really good shape with dad’s program, this is the fifth year in a row we’re doing it.”
On the topic of Rasmus Dahlin, Nylander had only positive things to say about the star forward. ”There’s a lot of talk about him, but that’s only good,” said Nylander. ”He’s a good player so he’s not going to have any problem proving himself.”
Zion Nybeck, Emil Andrae and Theo Nordlund have all been chosen to Sweden’s U17 roster for three upcoming games against Finland, taking place August 23-25 in Piteå.
Hockeynews.se met with Samuel Ersson in Kamloops, Canada to talk about the U20 National Team and his thoughts on fighting for the starting goaltender spot.
