Nylander Continues to Impress

Alex Nylander is continuing to impress and show his growth as a hockey player at the Buffalo Sabre’s training camp.

Last night, the standout forward recorded two assists in the Sabres pre-season opener, which ended up in 4-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

”Alex had another solid game, I really like his development through this camp,” said head coach Phil Housley in a postgame report written by Jourdon LaBarber. ”He’s done the right things, he’s working hard, he’s getting his nose dirty, he’s on the forecheck and he’s making plays.”

Nylander, ”happy and healthy to have the opportunity,” is even grabbing the attention of fellow Sabre Patrik Berglund.

”I’ve always known he’s very skilled, has a good shot, a fast forward,” Berglund said to LaBarber. ”But I think what I saw today and in practice, I think he’s been taking big steps of playing the game the right way and paying attention to the small details of the game.”

Axel Andersson is a Standout for Bruins

Axel Andersson is a Standout for Bruins

On the same day Axel Andersson was born, Zdeno Chara logged 23 mins TOI for the Islanders in a 5-3 loss against the Habs. Yesterday in the Boston Bruins pre-season game against the Washington Capitals, the two were paired together.

”He’s such a role model,” said Andersson of Chara in an interview with Michael Tolvo.”He’s great on and off the ice, so he made me comfortable.”

Andersson recorded one assist and logged just over 21 minutes of ice-time in the Bruins’ 2-1 overtime victory.

”[He] seemed really poised back there,” said assistant coach Sacco in the press room. ”Wasn’t nervous, went back for pucks, didn’t seem to get rattled or anything. Even when the pressure came on him a few times he didn’t seem to back off, he stuck with it.”

Ekeståhl Jonsson On NHL Hopes

Ekeståhl Jonsson On NHL Hopes

After two years in Allsvenskan with IF Björklöven, Lucas Ekeståhl Jonsson took off to Finland to spend this past season playing for TPS of Liiga. With six goals and 20 assists in 58 games, the defenseman caught the attention of none other than the Boston Bruins — so much so that he was invited to their development camp in July. Now, Jonsson is hopeful for his future.

”[Development camp] was a good experience, but most of all very informative. It was fun to be there and get to know it,” he in an interview with Mattias Persson of HockeyNews.se. ”The goal has always been the NHL. It’s obviously fun that they are interested in me. I’ll make sure to make a good season, so let’s hope for the best.”

Zion Nybeck: ”My Role Is To Be Offensive.”

Zion Nybeck: ”My Role Is To Be Offensive.”

During the recent U17 tournament between Sweden and Finland in Piteå, Zion Nybeck made some positive impressions and gained confidence from head coach Markus Åkerblom.

The 16-year-old forward was given a great deal of playing time over the three-day tourney, scoring one goal and two assists. Although Sweden wound up winning only one of the three games played, Nybeck saw it as a great opportunity to get to know his teammates, as well as see what needs to be improved for the future.

My role on the team is to be offensive, create scoring chances and play powerplay. That’s what I want to contribute,” said Nybeck in an interview with Hockeymagasinet.com. ”Of course there is a lust for revenge within the team. We have to step up in it, of course.”
